BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) and MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) are two courses in the field of dentistry that train students to become dental professionals. BDS is an undergraduate course, whereas MDS is a postgraduate course. The duration of BDS is five years, whereas MDS is a three-year course. After completing BDS, students can choose to practice as a dentist or pursue MDS for further specialization.
Bangalore is known for its excellent dental colleges that offer BDS and MDS courses. To get admission to these colleges, students must appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Based on their NEET score, students can apply for counseling conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) for admission to BDS and MDS colleges in Bangalore.
To be eligible for BDS, students must be a native to India and must have passed their 12th class with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as compulsory subjects. The minimum aggregate marks required is 50%. The duration of BDS is five years.The admission process for BDS is through NEET counseling conducted by the KEA.
To be eligible for MDS, students must have completed their BDS degree from a recognized dental college. The minimum aggregate marks required are 50% in Bachelor’s Degree in Dentistry. The duration of MDS is 3 years. The candidate must also possess a 6 months internship to obtain admission in MDS course and the age shouldn’t be less than 20 years. Students need to appear in the NEET PG entrance exam followed by NEET counseling conducted by the KEA to complete the admission process.
